The Immersion API (Application Programming Interface) is a software library for creating and assigning haptic effects to interact with haptic devices such as rotary controllers. The library provides all the code necessary for programmers to define and integrate both simple and complex haptic effects into their target applications. The Immersion API provides a number of pre-defined functions necessary to have the target application communicate directly with the haptic device, send and receive events, and render the haptic effects.
To optimize the user experience, the API supports several basic haptic effects. Users can customize the pre-defined effects or use the primitive effects as basic building blocks to create complex combinations. A library of commonly used combinations has been developed in response to industry demands.
