Case Study Gallery - 3D Studio MAX with MicroScribe-MAX

Skull and Wolverine- by Frank Robbins
Courtesy of Frank Robbins

"These models were digitized using MicroScribe-MAX and a modeling technique called sub-division surfaces. First, I digitized the models with splines, which I found to be a rich experience compared to polygons because you see results quickly! After all the splines were digitized, I created a patch surface (generated from a 3 or 4 sided spline) then added the sub-division sufaces (3D Studio Max users: Meshsmooth with Quad Output) modifier which adds the detail to smooth out the models."

"The Wolverine Mug took about a day to digitize; it would have taken at least a week using traditional modeling techniques in 3D Studio Max."

"The Skull also took about a day to be digitized. With traditional modeling techniques in 3D Studio Max it would have taken at least 2 weeks because of the immense detail."
