"Art5 is
an Italian animation studio based in Genoa and Turin. We are working on
a 3D animated short that will be released in December 2001. This is one
of the characters of the movie, a mad scientist. We used MicroScribe 3D
to model his head.
We first created a physical model in Plasticine. Then we used the MicroScribe
digitizer and MicroScribe Utility Software to create spline curves directly
in Maya.
The scanning process is very simple, it took just few hours to input the
head. After one day of adjustments the model was ready. Without using
MicroScribe, it would have taken one or two weeks to create this head,
and the result probably wouldn't have been so close to the real model.
Because we used NURBS surfaces, the head, eyes and ears have been modeled
separately. Textures have been created with Photoshop and Deep Paint 3D."
