Case Study Gallery - 3D Studio MAX with MicroScribe-MAX
This car model was created by Troy Harder of MGI, Inc.
Courtesy of MGI, Inc.
The model car was planned for Hasbro Interactive 's NASCAR games, Fall
2000.
To create the image Mr. Harder used a 1/18-scale model of a 1999 NASCAR Winston cup car. The car body itself contains over 3000 polygons. It took about two days to create this model. Before using MicroScribe, creating a model like this took almost three times as long. Utilizing MircoScribe also allowed for a level of detail and accuracy that was previously impossible to achieve.
The model was made using the MicroScribe-MAX plug-in for 3D studio Max r2.
"For a long time a device like MicroScribe didn't make sense for creating real time 3D models, there simply wasn't enough computing power to push the many polygons that make up a high quality model. An entire game screen couldn't be made up of more than a couple of hundred polygons. However with the new 3D acceleration that is here and soon to come, drawing 10,000+ polygons per frame will be quite possible. The graphical bar for 3D games is being raised very quickly. MicroScribe is perfect for creating content for this kind of environment, allowing us to create high quality models much more quickly and of higher quality than was previously possible."
