Case Study Gallery - Lightwave with Vertisketch
"Paradigm is hired by orthopaedic implant company (Smith & Nephew Medical) to digitize existing components of their product as well as their competitors. These are then analyzed comparatively to one another to see what advantages each design might have over the others in the areas of interest (range of motion, ability to flex and tie one's shoe without dislocating from the hip, etc.).
In one case Paradigm provided measurements on a cup prototype design. Typically the model is secured via a clamp and digitized using Vertisketch for Lightwave. The model is exported via a 3ds file and imported into Imagine for 3D analysis and rendering.
The renderings are used as marketing pieces; videos are created for the studies as noted by the company or to help doctors that are working on research projects. We have also output our work to interactive CD-Roms for the marketing department at Smith & Nephew.
We do mark the surface with a marker in a grid fashion to establish key
points. We use no special techniques other than being very careful."
Since 1996, Paradigm Productions has provided "high end" technically accurate medical animations and graphics for Smith & Nephew Medical (Orthopedic Division). For the last two years, Paradigm has helped Smith & Nephew prepare graphics for the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons conference. This has included computer graphics for video, brochures, posters, and slides as well as an interactive CD-Rom program.
In addition, Paradigm has provided computer graphics used in studies by several high profile surgeons in the areas of hip and knee arthroplasty; both in the United States and abroad.
