Case Study Gallery: Pro/Engineer

The leg model was created by Tim
Sutherland of Fidalgo Design for a major footwear manufacturer.
Test subjects were fixtured and digitized using the MicroScribe. The raw point data was then processed in Excel to determine the average, 5% shape, and 95% shape. The ankle and leg shown were derived using the average points, and the processed data was verified via the MicroScribe.
The processed point data was exported to Parametric Technology's Pro/Engineer and used to create a surface that comprised the ankle and leg. This information was blended into the existing foot data to create the model as shown.
The resulting Pro/Engineer model is capable of being tilted to reflect the posture of a number of sports. For example, the leg and ankle can be tilted forward with respect to the foot to provide an aggressive stance, or they can be placed perpendicular (as shown) to provide a more relaxed stance.
This model is used as the basis for a number of designs where leg and ankle information are pertinent. The MicroScribe proved invaluable in measuring, testing, and verifying the anthropomorphic data.
