TouchSense® Rotary Products
Immersion’s rotary products and technology include electronics
for industrial force feedback steering wheels, the TouchSense® PR-1000
Programmable Rotary Encoder module, custom programmable rotary encoder
solutions, and associated software development tools.
The PR-1000 Programmable Rotary Encoder and
our custom solutions enable a flexible, intelligent
design solution for today’s user interface and an alternative to
mechanical switches, encoders, potentiometers, and other types of electromechanical
input devices.
TouchSense digital rotary encoders can be programmed with the physical
characteristics of most any rotary switch in use today. Our technology
couples an optical encoder with braking and/or
motor actuators that are controlled by a dedicated
microprocessor. Tactile feelings of barriers, detents, hills, and many
other sensations can be easily produced. Used in combination with sight
and sound, these tactile
effects can enhance productivity, ease of use, safety, ergonomics,
and user satisfaction for many applications.
In addition, programmability
can give manufacturers and system integrators a competitive edge by supplying
advantages in usability, design, and cost.
Using a TouchSense rotary encoder, you can satisfy applications needing
small size, low cost, and low power, as well as applications with the
most demanding performance requirements, including strong forces and wide
ranges of motion. All TouchSense encoder designs can be configured for
dial, scroll wheel, thumb wheel, lever, or T-handle devices, and can include
a push-to-select function.
Immersion steering wheel
electronics can be programmed to simulate realistic forces for driver
training applications or produce force feedback sensations appropriate
to the context of operation for industrial control applications.
