TouchSense Haptics Restores Feel to Automotive Touch Systems

Immersion Haptic Systems

As automotive telematic control systems gain more functionality with music player interfaces, Bluetooth phone connections, and navigation systems, the user interfaces are becoming more complex.  Drivers need to have access to the functionality easy to use and within reach.  In addition to developments in voice recognition, there are two primary methods for touch user interfaces to these systems, touch surfaces like touch screens and, touch pads; and rotary, such as knobs and scroll wheels.  As these touch interfaces replace mechanical buttons, the role of haptics becomes even more critical to restore the sense of touch feedback, allowing drivers to navigate infotainment and control systems while keeping their eyes on the road.

Immersion's TouchSense solutions restores feel to automotive systems through Tactile and Force Feedback, improving the safety and overall usability of automotive systems.

Tactile Feedback

The TouchSense 1000 Series offers haptic solutions for industrial strength haptics for touchscreens, touch panels, and touch surfaces. This automotive-grade touch solution is optimized for fidelity and strength in demanding applications and extreme environments. For touch devices requiring a richer UI support, our TouchSense 2000 Series provides a drop-in solution for haptic effects in touchscreen-based applications like personal navigation devices.

TouchSense Force Feedback

Immersion’s rotary force feedback is ideal for automotive solutions. The software controls braking actuators that output barriers, detents, and constant force. They can be programmed to dynamically output haptic sensations.  For example, users can experience accelerated feedback correlated to speed of movement when scrolling through a list of music, but while in a map application, the rotary control can turn into a two dimensional mouse interface, with feedback for selection confirmation.
