Skills Assessment
The Skills Assessment
Module measures the cognitive and motor skills required for the successful
performance of IV therapy. It covers all aspects of the procedure, including
age-related issues, cannulation techniques, and safety and policy concerns.
Users must pass a thorough test of IV therapy protocols and procedures
in order to demonstrate an acceptable level of knowledge. Developed from
professional standards of practice in conjunction with expert clinicians,
the CathSim® system tests both motor and procedural skills using virtual
reality simulation. The system reproduces the look and feel of an actual
procedure through a combination of interactive computer-generated anatomy
and force feedback technology. A tutorial familiarizes users with the
system prior to testing.
Comprehensive Assessment
- Provides feedback to users on IV catheterization skills
- Quickly identifies individual user’s training needs
- Requires scenario-driven critical decision-making
- Supplies multiple reviews to facilitate user improvement
- Uses randomly generated questions to ensure no two tests are identical
- Provides valid evaluation tool for supervisors
Training Documentation
The Skills Assessment module automatically generates an evaluation report
every time a user proceeds through a case. This report can be viewed and
printed by the user or system administrator to monitor progress and highlight
skills that need to be improved. The simulation is also recorded and can
be played back at any time, providing a convenient visual review.
The system's extensive database also stores performance reports on departments,
units, or entire facilities, allowing clear and documented skills maintenance
evaluations and comparisons. Data can be exported for analysis, and a
networking feature permits remote administration.
