Developer Immersion hopes to bring high-quality touch feedback to more games through a partnership with Unity Technologies’ Unity game engine. The companies announced the partnership at Unity Austin, Unity’s conference in Texas. Immersion is a longtime developer and licensor of haptics, or touch feedback such as the sensations you get with a rumble-enabled video game controller.
Touch feedback specialist Immersion, has today announced an expansion of its TouchSense Force Haptic Lab, giving Unity developers the ability to add touch effects into their projects. By integrating one of the biggest software development engines available, Immersion’s Haptic Lab will enable Unity developers to adopt potentially faster, real-time workflows for designing, testing, feeling and integrating haptics into their titles.
In February, Immersion revealed a haptic profile editing tool called TouchSense Force that enables developers to create complex force feedback profiles for a variety of game input devices without the need for complex code. TouchSense Force offers a visual editor that resembles the sort of software you would expect an audio engineer or a video editor to use.

MMW has learned that Immersion Corporation – a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology – has signed a multi-year license agreement with Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Electric Corp. We can confirm that Mitsubishi Electric is licensing Immersion’s haptics IP for its automotive solutions.
